    Adding insulation to a steel residential building costs approximately $1 to $3 per square foot.
  • For accessories such as windows and doors, factor in an additional 15-25% (includes delivery fees and installation).
  • Anyone interested in building a do-it-yourself residential steel building can expect to pay around $10 to $20 per square foot for materials. If you need help with labor, factor in another $5 to $10 per square foot.

    A 1,500 square foot residence: $30,000 to $60,000

A Morton sales consultant serves as the primary source of contact with a customer, overseeing a team of company-employed project managers, estimators, truck drivers and crew personnel.

Single-source accountability is commonly the most costly option when building a Morton home, and availability is limited by multiple factors, including financing and building location.

SPLIT-SOURCE ACCOUNTABILITY

In split-source accountability, Morton will provide an insulated building shell and leave an outside general contractor responsible for the remaining finish. This option requires a smaller cost from Morton and additional costs from other construction entities for the completion of the home.

Split-source accountability likely requires two separate contracts for the project.

CUSTOMER-SOURCE ACCOUNTABILITY

The final option is customer-source accountability. Like split-source accountability, Morton constructs an insulated building shell with responsibility falling to the customer for interior walls and finishing costs.

Customer-source accountability is the least expensive option for a customer, but carries an elevated risk for error due to the amount of contractors involved. Because the customer is acting as its own general contractor, financing may be difficult to obtain from lending institutions.

WHAT DOES IT COST?

With three options available, the question returns: how much does a Morton home cost?

As an example, a ranch-style insulated house shell from Morton at 1,800 square feet (36’W x 10’H x 50’L) without concrete, interior walls or finish work would carry a price tag as low as $63,700 – or $36 per square foot.

On the other end of the spectrum, a two-story insulated shell from Morton as large as 3,000 square feet (30’W x 20’H x 50’L) would start at $202,813 – or $67 per square foot – before concrete, interior walls or finish work. Other styles and options are available, including a scaled back version of the two-story insulated shell that would start at $101,732 – or $34 per square foot.

Of course, additional costs will become a factor when the remaining finish work is completed. Concrete, HVAC, interior walls, flooring and plumbing are just a few of several critical components in home construction. Finishing costs can range anywhere from $50 per square foot to more than $100 per square foot.
